December Smokehouse

MacKenzie Brothers Pool Tournament winners

The MacKenzie Brothers Pool Tournament was held on Saturday, November 23 and the winners were Rodger Haynes and Jason Hilts.

From the Kitchen

We are doing Celebrations of Life again at the Branch.  Cost is $12.50 per person.

Friday Night dinners are starting again in January 2025.  The first one is January 3, 2025.

We are always looking for cooks and volunteers.  Please let us know if you would like to do either one.  Please sign up if you can.  Food draws people.

The 2nd and 4th weekend of each month will be saved for Fish and Chips and Wings and Fries.  And they are easy to cook.  We have cooking instructions that ensure we have a good product each and every time.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Branch.

November Smokehouse

President’s message

The Legion … The Big Picture at work in Ontario. What we don’t always see.

I recently along with Andy Moran and Earl MacDonald attended our District B Convention in Burlington.

So often we get caught up in our own Legions and all that goes with that, trying to make it work. We don’t see the “BIG PICTURE”.

Below is what Ontario Legions have contributed to our Veterans, our Youth and our Municipalities throughout Ontario 2023-2024.

This is the “Big Picture” and why we do what we do:

•          Poppy Donations: 2023…….. $9.5-million

•          Veterans Programs  ………. $3.5-million

•          Royal Caribbean Vets…….. $89,500

•          Service Dogs ……..  $2.2-million

•          Medical & Research ……….$600,000

•          Vets Programs  …….$532,000

•          Hospitals, clinics, fire departments, charities: since 1979 ….. $19.6-million

•          Bursary program: 12,634 awards to students …………$7.7-million

•          Poppy Trust Bursaries ………$634,000

•          Other Donations …………..$2.5-million

•          Local Community Projects ………..$1.4-million

•          Volunteers ………………6,157

•          Full-time part-time employees …………1,141

•          Free use of facilities: occasions in 2023 ……..21,600

•          District B Convention: (various Veteran projects in Ontario ………..$522,000

Thank you to all those members and patrons who support RCL Branch 29 in Paris. You are all the “Heart and Soul” of our Branch.

POPPY CAMPAIGN

September 21, 2024

Dear Comrades,

The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Poppy Committee will be conducting their annual campaign commencing Friday October 25th. Poppy boxes will be placed at local businesses starting from that date thru to Monday Nov.11th. Last year over $25,000.00 was raised and we have donated over $18,000.00 to help Veterans and promote Youth Education this year.

The Poppy Fund is the Legion’s way of remembering the DEBT WE OWE TO THOSE WHO SACRIFICED SO MUCH.

We will be having our members canvassing at local business this year. There will be a sign-up sheet on the notice board at the Branch, and I ask all members to consider volunteering for a shift.

Member donations can be mailed to the above address, cheques, cash may be dropped off at Branch #29.  Receipts for income tax will be prepared and mailed out to those donating $5.00 or more.

If you have any questions on the campaign or on purchasing wreaths phone the Branch number shown above.

Your continued support of the Poppy campaign is appreciated.

Stephen Kitchen
