A Life Well Lived
It is with profound sadness, but immense gratitude for a life so well lived, that we announce the passing of Gordon Ronald “Syd” Johnston.
Gord was the devoted and beloved husband of Sharon “Babe” (née Collingwood) for 70 wonderful years. Together they built a life centred on love, family, and friendship. He was the much-loved father of Marsha (Hank), Jennifer (Paul), Michelle (Bob), and Jeff, and a proud grandfather to 8 grandchildren, and 2 Great grandchildren. Much loved and proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his loving sister, Bev McComb (George), and sister in law Denise Johnston.
Gord was predeceased by his parents, Balf and Maude Johnston, and his brother, David Johnston.
As a young man, Gord proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he returned to his hometown of Paris, Ontario, where he joined his father in operating Johnston’s Red & White Grocery. Working behind the butcher counter,
Gord will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering love for his family, friends, and his remarkable ability to make every gathering a little brighter. He lived life to the fullest, valued friendship above all else, and leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, generosity, and love.
Although he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the lessons he shared, and the countless lives he touched will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved
A family service with interment in St. James Anglican Cemetery.
Friends are welcome to join the family at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 (70 William St. Paris) on Saturday August 1, from 1-4 p.m.
