January 2026 Smokehouse

The Paris Legion 29 is leaving 2025 with great results and heading into 2026, our
centennial year, with hopeful expectations of making our branch even more community
minded.

BUT HOW?
A new initiative from command is offering a free membership to any one that has not
been a member previously. This is our opportunity to encourage more individuals to
take an active part at Branch 29 by volunteering at and helping to create new events.
Be sure to share this initiative with everyone.

I am very excited and looking forward to meet and greet new members and looking for
increasing creativity and activity within the branch.

Executive areas needing assistance include Ways and Means. Co-ordinator Tracy
Terryberry would welcome ideas on what new events to introduce to the branch. If you
want to be involved in any area of the branch the executive is ready to welcome you
The branch will be conducting an open meeting in January to listen to new ideas, Dates
will be posted at the branch as well as on our Facebook page and at parislegion29.ca.

From all of the committees we wish you a Happy and healthy New Year.
Barry Humphrey
President

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

President’s message

November 11 at the Cenotaph was a great success this year. A light snowfall reminded us of our fallen comrades—those who gave us the freedoms we enjoy today, including freedom of speech and the way we live. President Barry Humphrey

Poppy Campaign

The Poppy Campaign continues to make a meaningful impact. This past year, Legions donated $369,000 to support:

·       Homeless veterans

·       Bursaries for students

·       Service dogs

·       Charitable foundations

We sincerely thank everyone who donated their time and money.

Additionally, the Poppy Fund contributed $1,600 to Youth Education. Branch executive Jinny Moore will ensure these funds are used to educate youth in our community.

Canadian Cancer Music Event

Jim Young reports that the Canadian Cancer Music Event was warmly received by the community. Donations increased by 33%, raising a total of $4,105.

Special thanks to all who attended meetings and worked on No Roads Back. Your outstanding efforts help distribute funds to drivers who transport cancer patients to their treatment destinations.

Whoa 5,000 Poppies!!!!!!!

A huge thank you to all who have donated time and effort to help us reach this anniversary poppy project milestone.

Do drop in to the Paris Museum and Historical Society to view Donna Campbell’s art quilt on display. Tina Lyon has showcased Donna’s quilt along with some Legion history and Janice Labron’s Flanders Fields pillow . While there, remember to vote for a name for our anniversary quilt. The display is at the museum until December 20th.
