We wish to inform everyone that the Saturday Barbeques will be ending on August 26th. This is due to the lack of volunteers. The BBQ’s are a great source of income for the branch but it is only a hand full of volunteers working every Saturday and that is not fair to them.
The BBQs are going along ok. We still need help on cooking with the fryers. Unfortunately, if we fail to get more people willing to do that job, we will have no choice but to reduce the number of BBQs. The person who was organizing, preparing and working the kitchen has resigned. They have done 7 doubles in a row and say it is taking a toll on their health. We need someone to step up and run the Saturday immediately. Please take some time on a Saturday to assist your branch.
We are looking into acquiring some grant money. We are going to need to replace the flat roof. That would be in the range of $40,000. We are looking at getting a chairlift so guests can access the upstairs. That would cost about $20,000. There are a few other items that would update the branch.
GOLF TOURNAMENT. The branch golf tournament is coming up fast. September 9th. Sign up sheets are hanging up on the wall under upcoming events.
POOL LEAGUE. The pool league is starting up September 14th at 7PM. It fills up fast so sign up early. Sheet will be up on Friday.
POOL TOURNAMENT. We are going to host a pool tournament on September 16th. Sign up starts at 11.30 a.m..
PARANORMAL NIGHT. September 30 we will be hosting a paranormal night. We have had a group come in and investigate our branch. They will be showing their findings as well as equipment used. Tickets go on sale shortly. $20 per person. Come out and listen to their findings. Apparently, they have some interesting findings.
SMART SERVE VOLUNTEERS. We are looking into using volunteers, who have a current smart serve certificate. We have a few groups that use our facilities on days we are not normally open. This would include Lions club, Kiwanis, a few sororities and other events. If this would interest you, please reach out to us.

We are now through or first month of the new executive. Thing are starting to take shape. There have been a few glitches but that is to be expected when you start a new job. There will always be a learning curve.
Next week the VP’s and I will be sitting down to work out a plan for the next 2 years. Some items up for discussion are Bylaws, which have not been adjusted since 2014. Grants, which ones we would like to apply for to, continue updating the branch. These two are the most pressing but I am sure there will be a few more brought up.
The Barbeques are continuing every Saturday. We are still looking for volunteers. If you can spare a few hours on a Saturday we would greatly appreciate you helping. Training will be provided, so don’t worry if you think I am not sure if I can help.
I do have news of a sad note. We have lost two longstanding members and supporters of our branch. They will be missed.
William (Bill) Kipp. He was a well-known person in the town as he formerly owned the local funeral home. He was 99 years old and a member of the branch for over 70 years.
Durward (Dewey) Robinson. He was a long standing member who always helped on Remembrance Day. He, with the help of others would move the wreaths to and from the cenotaph. He was someone a lot of people in the neighborhood knew as he was a fire fighter. So giving of his time supporting Paris was something he liked doing.
There was a few events that we held in June.
I would like to thank the Ayr-Paris Band for doing their yearly show to officially open our patio.
We also had a appreciation day for the Volunteers. Without your help we would be struggling to hold events like our BBQ.
Grass cutting has started. If you would like to help please drop by the Branch and let us know. We would appreciate the help.
Enjoy your summer but don’t forget to drop by the Branch and enjoy a drink or two.
Happy Canada Day.
Regards
Donald MacLeod
President
