President’s Report

Renovations to the Branch are in the final stages, we’ve installed new lighting in the lounge and it is almost complete.

On March 1st we had our first 50/50 draw for $3,000.  The lucky winner was R.B. Congratulations, you deserve it.

March 5th was a wonderful day for our Chili Cookoff.  We had eight teams competing for first place. Over eighty people in attendance to sample the chili.

March 15th the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner was sold out.  There was music, a lucky draw and a raffle. Everyone had a good time.

We continue to have trivia twice each month alternating between the meal evenings.

Comrades – on Wednesday, April 16th we will have a general meeting to elect our executive starting at 7:30 p.m.  This is a very important meeting as we will be electing our President, 1st vice, 2nd vice, treasurer, and secretary.  We will open the floor to members wishing to volunteer for the committees to keep the branch open and viable.  All members have a vote in these proceedings and are encouraged to attend.

Anyone wishing any information on these positions please give me a call.

March Smokehouse

President’s report

The snow over the past few weeks has been a real test on our shoveling ability and we got through it – so enough is enough.

Over the last couple of months, I have encountered some personal health issues that have required me to seek medical advice. Through those discussions I have requested a 90-day Leave of Absence from my duties at the Branch.

Earl MacDonald 1st Vice President will take over command of Branch 29 in the in term along with the assistance of Barry Humphrey 2nd Vice President.

We have a great Executive Committee so along with these members the Branch is in very capable hands.

On Tuesday, February 25, Earl MacDonald and I attended the Brant County Council Meeting to request an answer to our request for an Exemption to the County Noise Bylaw 108-22. This would permit music on our Patio from May to October in conjunction with our Saturday afternoon BBQ’s Our application for exemption was APPROVED.

We have had some major replacements to our  equipment at the Branch during the month of February. The Fire Alarm Panel has been replaced as well as our antiquated Beer Cooler system. Through a generous donation of one of our members we also replaced the carpet in the lounge this month.

Our renovations to the Branch are ongoing. Thanks to all for your ongoing financial support.

Trivia, as well as all our sports programs are well attended on a weekly basis.

We are considering slotting in Bingo a couple of times a month, most likely in the afternoon. This will all depend on interest of members and guests Please let us know your interest and email Tracy at barbie.doll1268@gmail.com.

As we get closer to May, we will be accepting help to organize and move forward our Saturday Afternoon BBQ’s. If you can help a few times throughout the month, please let us know. Contact Helen by email at hcbailey1@hotmail.com.

John Haynes

John Milton Haynes
March 25, 1958 – February 13, 2025

It is with great sadness we share the sudden passing of John Haynes on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in his 67th year. Beloved husband to Deborah (nee Malcolm) of 47 years. Much loved father of Valerie (Jason) Haynes-Hilts, Michelle Doherty and Jessica (Michael) Mercer. Cherished Papa of Alexis, Liam, Rhylee, Ethan, Owen and Amber.

He is survived by his brother Rodger (Susan) Haynes, sisters Maureen (James) Little and Karen {K.C.} (Steve) Pongracz. Predeceased by his parents John & Hazel Haynes, sister Jacalyn Haynes and son John Haynes. He will be greatly missed by all his extended family.

Affectionately known as Bobo to family and friends. He always had a joke and loved to make people laugh. He was a proud employee of Thompson Printing & Lithographing Ltd, 50 years this year. John was an active member of his local Legion. Participating in many of the activities hosted there over the years. Oftentimes, you could find him in the garage working on his latest woodworking or DIY project.

John lived a life full of laughter, kindness and unwavering devotion to those he held most dear. His absence has left an unfillable space, but his love and laughter will continue to echo in the hearts of those who loved and knew him.

As per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Respecting his wishes of no funeral we will hold a Celebration of Life at the Branch 29 Royal Canadian Legion (70 William St., Paris) on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 1pm – 4pm.

In lieu of flowers a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada would be greatly appreciated.

New Chair Fundraiser

Branch 29 has long been a beloved gathering spot for our community, hosting numerous events, meetings, and activities. To continue providing a comfortable and welcoming environment, we are launching a fundraising campaign to purchase new chairs for our facility. We invite all members and patrons to join us in this endeavor to enhance the comfort and functionality of our space.

The Need for New Chairs

Over the years, the chairs at Branch 29 have seen significant wear and tear. Our current seating options are not only outdated but also uncomfortable, and some have become unsafe for use. By purchasing new chairs, we aim to:

·        Improve Comfort: Modern, ergonomic chairs will provide better support and comfort for all users,

·        Enhance Safety: New chairs will ensure the safety of our members and patrons, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries

·        Boost Aesthetics: Updated chairs will contribute to a more attractive and professional appearance for our facility, making it a more inviting place for community gatherings.

Our Fundraising Goal

To achieve our goal of outfitting Branch 29 with new chairs, we aim to raise $12,000. This amount will cover the cost of purchasing high-quality, durable chairs that will serve our community for years to come. We have carefully selected chairs that offer the best value in terms of comfort, durability, and cost.

How You Can Help

We are calling on all members and patrons of Branch 29 to support this campaign through donations. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference. Here are some ways you can help:

·        Monetary Donations: Financial contributions can be made in person at the branch.

·        Sponsorship: Consider sponsoring a chair or multiple chairs.

·        Fundraising Events: Participate in or help organize fundraising events, community dinners or 50/50 draw to raise additional funds.

·        Spread the Word: Share our campaign with friends, family, and social networks to increase awareness and support.

Recognition and Appreciation

We deeply value the generosity of our community, and we want to acknowledge and appreciate all contributions. Donors will be recognized in various ways, including:

·        Thank You Event: We will host a special event to thank all donors and celebrate the successful completion of our campaign.

Conclusion

The success of this fundraising campaign depends on the collective effort of our members and patrons. By coming together, we can provide Branch 29 with the new chairs it needs to continue being a comfortable and welcoming space for our community. We thank you in advance for your generosity and support.

Let’s make this campaign a success and enhance the experience for everyone at Branch 29!
